Ken Loach research

- Loach was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire
- He is an English director of tv and independent film
- Joined the Labour Party in the early 1960s
Loach studied law at St. Peter’s College, Oxford, which Is where he became interested in acting
After graduating he spent two years in the Royal Air Force and then started his career in acting.
- He worked as a director for BBC
- Loach issued social issues on TV because after making Cathy Come Home in 1966 (which as abut unemployment and homelessness) it brought the discussion of homelessness being an issue into the British mainstream
- Ken Loach founded the Left Unity party which is a left-wing political party in 2013. He appealed for a new party to replace the Labour Party which failed but did gain more than 10,000 supporters.
- He puts his own political and socialist beliefs into his films, programmes and documentaries
- Some of the films he makes includes = I, Daniel Blake, Kes, Cathy Come Home, Sweet Sixteen, Family life and many more.
- Ken Loach could be an auteur because many of his films feature his political views so much so that they cause public discussion about the views - a auteur is a film director who influences their films so much that they rank as their author.
- When directing films and documentaries Loach ran into problems with political censorship - for example a TV programme Questions Of Leadership was never shown as it was about the trade unions wasn't allowed on Channel 4,
- He did a lot of collaborations with other directors
- Some admire Loach for his work as he is constantly revealing the hardships and struggles for the people at the bottom of the social hierarchy and in some ways giving them a voice.
