First year textual analysis mini mock
The ideology of the producer is that the woman is the more powerful and dominant character within the Wonder Woman poster due to the fact that the mise-en-scene surrounding her and on her outfit is orange which symbolises strength and determination whereas the man in the background has blue surrounding him which shows a sense of weakness. Therefore this is a non-stereotypical view due to the fact a stereotypical image of a man and woman is that the man is the more dominant and strong person and the woman is weaker. Similarly, Levi-Strauss' theory of binary opposition is clearly shown to the audience of the woman and man being completely opposite with their strength and power showing strength vs weakness and male vs female. This shows how the producer has chosen a subverted idea for the poster.
Roland Barthes invented the idea of semiotics which is looking into the idea of text and images. Semiotics can be seen within this advert due to the fact that the woman is positioned in the front of the advert in a mid range shot which enables the audience to see that she is holding a sword while the man is towards the back with no clear weapon. The sword within the woman's hand further exaggerates her fierce and brave character. The producer also uses a proairetic code which can be seen as Wonder Woman is holding a sword which represents the high amount of action that could happen within the film.
The use of serif font of "wonder" and then the sans serif font of the "W" emphasises how important the role of Wonder Woman is within the film due to the fact that sans serif font is bolder and more eye-catching to the audience who see the poster. This further represents Wonder Woman's boldness not only within the poster but in the film.
